Ho Kian Lo Mie Mie Ayam Abadi

Today I will show you about nice restaurant selling Ho Kian Lo Mie around Sunter - Jakarta area.

The name of this restaurant is Ho Kian Lo Mie Mie Ayam Abadi. Over there, we tried Ho Kian Lo Mie, Nasi Campur and Pangsit Kuah.

Ho Kian Lo Mie

Ho Kian Lo Mie consists of noodle, shrimp, mushroom, fish ball, gizzard, vegetables and thick gravy. This thick gravy makes Hokian Lo Mie different with other normal noodle dishes.

This Ho Kian Lo Mie is delicious and best to eat when it's still hot.

Nasi Campur

Nasi Campur in this place consists of chicken, char siew, crispy roasted pork, egg and pork satay.  This dish also comes with vegetable soup. The taste is not bad, but I prefer Ho Kian Lo Mie.

Vegetable Soup

Pangsit Kuah

Pangsit Kuah a.k.a dumpling soup is also delicious. The meat filling inside the dumpling is a lot and not hard to bite.

Es Lidah Buaya

For the drink, we tried Es Lidah Buaya. Es Lidah Buaya consist of aloe vera. This is a cooling drink and good for your body.

Will I go there again? Yes.

Ratu Kepiting

What is the best seafood for you? For me, everything about seafood are best. Sounds greedy, right :p.

During my trip to Jakarta, we always go hunting delicious foods. One of the best place that we tried so far was Ratu Kepiting (Crab Queen). Located at Wisma Gading Permai apartment, Ratu Kepiting opens daily start from 18:00PM until 24:00PM.

Ratu Kepiting offers many types of seafood dishes, but I suggest you to try their crab dishes.

We ordered Kepiting Saus Padang (Crab with Padang sauce), Soup Asparagus and two plates of rice.

The crab dishes price depends on the crab's weight.

Kepiting Saus Padang was tasty and a bit spicy. This crab meat was fresh, sweet, thick and got many crab's egg.

Soup asparagus was also not bad. It's contained asparagus, fish ball, shrimp and egg.

The dishes portion were big. Each dish could served 2 people.

Although Ratu Kepiting was a tent food stall and located in the outdoor area without A/C, we were enjoying eating at this place.

Will I go there again? Yes.

Kwetiaw Sapi Hayam Wuruk 61

Today I will show you my favorite place since I was a kid when craving kway teow (Indonesian called as kwetiaw) in Jakarta. The name is Kwetiaw Sapi Hayam Wuruk 61. This place is famous in Kelapa Gading area.

They sell two types of kway teow: kwetiaw siram and kwetiaw goreng. These Kwetiaw Siram and Kwetiaw Goreng use beef and beef tripe.

My favourite is kwetiaw siram.

If you visit Jakarta, be sure to try kwetiaw siram and kwetiaw goreng.  They are delicious.

Btw this kwetiaw goreng is different with Singaporean's char kway teow. You should try it and let me know which one do you prefer :)

Will I go there again? Yes.

Antara Cafe & Resto

Looking for a cozy place to eat when you visit Pasar Baru, Jakarta? You may try Antara Café & Resto.

Antara Café & Resto offers a wide range of foods from Chinese foods, Indonesian foods and Western foods. Over there, we try Pan Fried Beef with Special Sauce and Sautéed Green Bean with Salty Egg Sauce.

Pan Fried Beef with Special Sauce is nice. The beef is also tender.

The chef cooks Sautéed Green Bean with Salty Egg Sauce perfectly. I can taste the Salty Egg sauce whenever I chew the beansprout.

Be sure to visit this restaurant if you are around Pasar Baru area. While enjoying the delicious foods, you also can see a lot of oldies Pasar Baru era pictures hang in the wall inside this restaurant.

Chicken Village

Today I want to show you a unique dish that I had found when I am visiting Jakarta. It is Beggar Chicken.

FYI, Beggar chicken is a famous dish from Changshu - China. This dish contains of chicken wrapped in lotus leaves and covered with a clay. After covered with clay, they will bake it with hot coals until the clay is hardened. Nowadays, beggar chicken is considered a staple of Chinese Haute cuisine.

Beggar Chicken IDR186.000

Curious why do they named it Beggar Chicken? Some says there is a story behind Beggar Chicken. Long time ago, there was one poor beggar who found wild chicken and he planned to eat it without telling anybody. So he built a fire, put the chicken into the hot coals and covered the chicken with the mud. In this condition, the chicken fragrance would trapped in the mud, so no one would know about the chicken. But, a luck was not on the poor beggar when he started to eat the chicken.  One noble traveler smelled the chicken and the beggar was kind enough to share the chicken with him. The chicken was so delicious so the traveler keen to learn from the beggar on how to make this chicken. Eventually this cooking method made it all the way into the Imperial Court. Because of that, they named this chicken dish 'Beggar Chicken'.

We eat this Beggar Chicken at Chicken Village restaurant. Because it takes a long time to make this dish, you may only able to order Beggar Chicken after lunch hour and they only have limited Beggar Chicken quantity every day.

The chicken is very tender and fragrant. The fragrant is coming from the Chinese herbal ingredient that they put into the chicken. This Beggar Chicken is incredibly delicious indeed.

The presentation of the way that they serve Beggar Chicken in Chicken village restaurant is so creative. They bring a Chicken shape clay and wood hammer. After that, the waitress starts to hit the clay with a wood hammer. After it cracks, you can see the chicken wrapped in 2 wrapper: aluminum foil and lotus leaves. Below are some of the pictures and video on how they serve the Beggar Chicken.

Other than Beggar Chicken, we also order Hainan Rice and Fried Yam filled with Chicken and Mushroom.

Hainan Rice IDR7.800

Fried Yam filled with Chicken and Mushroom

Hainan rice and Fried Yam filled with Chicken and Mushroom are also not bad.

Overall we were enjoying having dinner at Chicken Village restaurant. Be sure to try their Beggar Chicken if you visit this restaurant.

Will I go there again? Yes

Tuan Rumah

Happy Saturday, folks!!

Today I want to share with you a restaurant in Jakarta, named Tuan Rumah (in English called The Master of the House).

I had dinner over there on the last Christmas Eve with my special friend (ehem). Beginning, we have never plan to go to Tuan Rumah. We dine in there just because it's located near the church that we attended. Fortunately, we were glad with our last minutes decision.

Reached there, we were quite amazed with their second floor interior design. It is so romantic and rustic, too bad they minus the "candle light" on the table to make it perfect :p

For our dinner, we ordered Sapi Bistik HK and Udang Pasir Emas.

Sapi Bistik HK is a Hong Kong style beef steak. The meat is so tender and this dish is taste superb.

Udang Pasir Emas contain shrimp and orange colour sauce. The shrimp is fresh and the orange colour sauce (gravy) is so buttery. It is delicious.

Both dishes were great. We were enjoyed and satisfied had our dinner over there. The only negative comment is their service are slow, the waiting time to serve a dish is quite long.

Will I go there again? Yes.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you'll have a great weekend!!

Sapi Bistik HK IDR43.910

Udang Pasir Emas IDR34.545

Paradise Inn

Feeling hungry after buying some electronic stuff at Funan? You may want to try Paradise Inn. Paradise Inn is a Chinese restaurant which is located at Funan level 2.

Over there, we ordered homemade style fried vermicelli and supreme seafood fried rice.

Overall, both dishes are not bad and not that oily either.

Although the price is quite expensive for this kind of food, I’m quite satisfied with the portion given. 1 portions enough for two people. So I think is quite worth to try.

Will I go there again? Maybe yes.

Tim Ho Wan

Today I want to share with you a quite new dim sum restaurant at The Atrium - Plaza Singapura called Tim Ho Wan.

Tim Ho Wan is a most affordable one Michelin star dimsum restaurant originally come from HongKong.

The Michelin star plus the people curiosity does explain the long queue over there.  I believed 98% people stay in Singapore heard about this restaurant. It took me at least TWO HOURS to get sit over there. ALAMAK, two hours just for dim sum?!?!?!

Anyway, here is my review:
We tried 80% of their menu, like: Steamed Egg cake, Baked Bun with BBQ Pork, Pan Fried Carrot Cake, Pork Dumpling with Shrimp, Prawn Dumpling, Glutinous Rice Dumpling, Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce, Beef Ball with BeancurdSkin, Beancurd Skin Roll with Shrimp, Spring Roll with Egg White, Congee with Lean Pork, Century Egg and Salted Egg, Vermicelli Roll with BBQ Pork, Dumpling Teochew Style and Tonic Medlar & Osmanthus Cake.

The food that you die-die MUST try is their Baked Bun with BBQ Pork.

I never tried the Hong Kong’s version of this bun, but I can confirm (with guarantee chop) that those buns are awesomely delicious. I especially love the top skin of the bun; it is like Roti boy style.

FYI, the rule over there is one set (contains of three buns) per customer. I believed, everyone (who queued up for two hours) will buy the maximum sets they could. Like us, example, four of us bought four sets of this bun. We ate two sets over there and ‘da bao’ the remaining two sets.

The other foods that I recommend are: Pork Dumpling with Shrimp, Spring Roll with Egg White and Tonic Medlar & Osmanthus.

The Pork Dumpling with Shrimp is sweet, tasty and yummy. It is so tasty to make us ordered another three more sets (two for take away).

Spring Roll with Egg White is unique, crispy and simply tasty. Although I still prefer Jakarta’s spring roll, their Spring Roll is not a bad option.

The foods that just so-so for me are: Steamed Egg cake, Prawn Dumpling, Glutinous Rice Dumpling, Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce, Beancurd Skin Roll with Shrimp, Congee with Lean Pork, Century Egg and Salted Egg and Vermicelli Roll with BBQ Pork.

I’m not a Steamed Egg cake lover, so I can't give justice on this dish. But their Steamed Egg cake’s texture is so sweet, soft, fluffy and smooth. You might want to try it.

The foods that I love less are: Pan Fried Carrot Cake, Dumpling Teochew Style and Beef Ball with BeancurdSkin.

Will I queue another two hours for Tim Ho Wan? ABSOLUTELY NO!!

But, I will visit them again when their hotness level a bit cooling down =P
