EAT and EAT

Another post about food from my hometown!! Thanks for your understanding :P

EAT and EAT is a food court with a unique concept that you may found at Mall Kelapa Gading – Jakarta Utara.

I called it unique because they were successfully created the old retro place ambience together with their nice old decorations.

Their concept is quite similar with the Singapore Food Trail and Malaysian Food Street in Singapore.

Around there you may found Singapore’s, Malaysia’s, Chinese’s or Indonesia’s foods, like: Sekba, Baso Akiauw 99, Hainam Chicken Rice, Carrot Cake, Yong Tau Fu Singapore, Chili Frog Geylang Lor 9, Nasi Lemak Katong, Gudeg Dalang, Bakmi Kepiting Pontianak, Bubur Benteng Tangerang and many more.

At first, we were confused to choose what to eat. There are too many choices of foods offered.

All looks decent and NICE. Too bad I only got one stomach, my first sister and her husband can’t eat too much. Alamak!! Next time must bring more people, so I could try more type of foods over there.

In the end, we ordered Es Pisang Ijo, Nasi Bogana, Ketupat Telor and buah lontar.

FYI, buah lontar is one type of fruit.

Overall the tastes are not bad.

Nasi Bogana IDR22.727

Ketupat Telor

Es Pisang Ijo IDR10.454

Buah Lontar IDR10.000

Warung Pok Encum

Today’s post is AGAIN about some of the food that I took when I was in Jakarta!!  Now you surely will understand the reason of me gaining some weight every time I go back to Jakarta :(

This time let me share with you one old and nice place for having lunch at Warung Pok Encum.

Warung Pok Encum offers many types of old-school dishes, some of them are difficult to find in another places nowadays.

My grandma is the one who introduced me to this small eatery. Frankly speaking, when we reached at this place, I was quite surprise with the surrounding area.

I was thinking; why on earth my grandma brought me to this kind of place?!?! Was there any “good and decent” food around here?!?!?!  The eatery is so small and the surrounding area is dirty!!!

Never judge by its outlook!!  Now I understand this word!! After I tried their dishes, I realise that their dishes are very delicious. It’s just too amazing :)

Actually, I salute to Warung Pok Encum’s owner. Although the place is small and not located at good area, Warung Pok Encum can survive for the last 30years until now. I believe it’s because their foods are so tasty!!

FYI, the owner got told me that not long ago, one of the local TV channel came to review their place. It’s up to you to believe it or not :P

How to order the food? It’s use the same method as how you order mixed rice in Singapore. Every dish has a different price.

I ordered mixed rice with fried chicken, perkedel and sambal goreng kentang. Other than that, I also tried their soto mie and es teler.

FYI: Soto mie is a  soup with noodles, hard-boiled egg, beef and tomato.

Es teller toppings are avocado, coconut and jackfruit.

Overall dishes are delicious. I will surely, confirm with guarantee chop, will come back again whenever I go back to Jakarta.

Rumah Bakwan

Good Day to All!!

Today, let me share with you one restaurant called Rumah Bakwan (House of Bakwan) at Rawamangun, Jakarta Timur (East Jakarta). The owner of this restaurant is no other than my own uncle =)

Their speciality dish is Bakwan Malang. Bakwan Malang is a type of Chinese Indonesian cuisine of meatball and fried wonton soup from Malang, East Java. Sometimes also called Bakso Malang.

Over there, they got a lot variety of bakwan, such as Fried Kekian, Fried Meat Balls, Fried Siomay, Steamed Siomay, Steamed Tofu, and Beef Balls.

PS: Kekian is one of the Peranakan Foods that you can find in Indonesia. Siomay is a fish dumpling.

They have two types of Beef Ball: Normal Beef Ball and Beef ball filled with tendons and coarse meat.

How to order the food? It is so easy! It is a bit similar with how you order Yong Tau Foo in Singapore.

First you need to choose the types of bakwan you want to add on. Different types comes with different price. And then choose either noodle or beehoon to go with it.

Other than Bakwan Malang, they also have Es Mutiara (Pearl Ice). Es Mutiara is a kind of dessert  like ice kachang. It comes with many types of colourful jelly.

Overall, the tastes for their Bakwan Malang and Es Mutiara are nice. The best part of all is the price is affordable.

So, if you are around Rawamangun, you may consider having your lunch / dinner over there.

A&W

Do you like Fast Food? For me personally, I like to eat it occasionally!! In Singapore, there are so many good Fast Food restaurants, such as KFC, Macdonald, Texas Chicken, Popeye’s, Wendy’s, etc.

But, there is one Fast Food Restaurant that has been missing from Singapore. Yup, it was A&W. In Singapore, A&W closed down in 2003.

So, the only chance I can visit A&W is when I ‘balik kampong’ to Jakarta.

For Today, I will share with you about this Fast Food Restaurant that has mascot called Rooty (the Great Root Bear). Oh ya, just FYI, A&W is stand for Allen & Wright.

I visited A&W during my holiday trip to Jakarta. Each of us ordered a set of set meal. This set meal comes with two Chickens, plain rice and root bear.

I topped up the root bear to float root bear and ordered the curly fries. I LOVE to drink root bear. For me, it is the best soft drink ever!!!

And as for the foods, their curly fries and the chicken are also nice.

I truly hope that A&W will reopen again in Singapore soon (finger cross).
