Gandy Steak House

Today I will share with you one famous 'old-school' steak restaurant in Jakarta named Gandy Steak House.

If not mistaken (sorry if I'm wrong), Gandy Steak House is the oldest steak restaurant which still be able to survive in Kelapa Gading area. When I was young, Gandy Steak House was so famous and considered as a high-class restaurant.  Even though currently their fame is slightly drop, they still manage competing with other competitor in Kelapa Gading.

Anyway, we had late lunch at Gandy Steak House to celebrated Christmas. As a starter, they served us the 'Welcome Bread' which contains of long bread with margarine.

After that, they showed us the menu and we ordered Chicken Steak and Steak ala Gandy. Each steak comes with two side dishes.

Gandy's Chicken Steak is very big. It's crispy and nice.

Chicken Steak IDR66.000

Steak ala Gandy is not bad either. They uses the local juicy and tender beef.

Steak Ala Gandy IDR92.000

Side Dishes

The presentation of the steak dish is quite unique. They pour the sauce to the hot steak plate which produced smoke. FYI, the sauce makes the steak very tasty. You may see the process in below picture.

Overall we were glad to celebrate Christmas at Gandy Steak House. The only comment is the place is quite dirty. Hope Gandy Steak House management can look into this matter.

Will I go there again? Maybe yes.

Flood in Kelapa Gading (My House Area)

Last weekend (which was from 18 - 19 January 2014), all the people in Jakarta were 'busy' handling the flood problem.

Most of the areas in Indonesia’s capital were terribly affected by the flood incident (my area was one the affected are).

During those two days, we were not able to step up from our house. The water level was quite high (estimate to not less than 35cm). Some of our neighbours were decided to escape’ to their relatives house or hotel to stay.  Since they can’t depend with their car, they hire or rent rubber boat or delman (heavy four-wheeled vehicle pulled by a horse) as their transport.

For us, we were just really lucky that the water didn’t go into the house. One problem solved!

But, hey, we still have another problem. We don’t have enough stock for foods!! OMG!!! As you all know, my mother needs to eat more fresh vegetables and white eggs.  Alamak!!!!!

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Tada!!! Fortunately, there was one brave vegetable seller who ‘still’ wants to come and sell the fresh vegetables and eggs to my area. Can you imagine how tough he needs to walk from house-to-house to sell his stuffs?!?!?! Without hesitation, all the aunties I bought a vegetables and eggs for one week stock. Thank you so much, Mr Vegetable seller!!  You are our hero!!

Other than the brave vegetable seller, there was also one Siew Mai seller who came to our area.

When I looked into his Siew Mai pot, I knew that many peoples were bought his Siew Mai earlier. Luckily, I still managed to buy two portions.

Salute to those two sellers who were willing to go out to sell the foods even there were floods anywhere!

Currently, our place is safe. And now, even though the rain is still pouring, I truly hope that there will be no more floods. And Ï hope that everyone in Jakarta are safe.

Cheers!!

Tuan Rumah

Happy Saturday, folks!!

Today I want to share with you a restaurant in Jakarta, named Tuan Rumah (in English called The Master of the House).

I had dinner over there on the last Christmas Eve with my special friend (ehem). Beginning, we have never plan to go to Tuan Rumah. We dine in there just because it's located near the church that we attended. Fortunately, we were glad with our last minutes decision.

Reached there, we were quite amazed with their second floor interior design. It is so romantic and rustic, too bad they minus the "candle light" on the table to make it perfect :p

For our dinner, we ordered Sapi Bistik HK and Udang Pasir Emas.

Sapi Bistik HK is a Hong Kong style beef steak. The meat is so tender and this dish is taste superb.

Udang Pasir Emas contain shrimp and orange colour sauce. The shrimp is fresh and the orange colour sauce (gravy) is so buttery. It is delicious.

Both dishes were great. We were enjoyed and satisfied had our dinner over there. The only negative comment is their service are slow, the waiting time to serve a dish is quite long.

Will I go there again? Yes.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you'll have a great weekend!!

Sapi Bistik HK IDR43.910

Udang Pasir Emas IDR34.545

Chic-a-boo

Raise your hand if you are a fried chicken lover. I believe you all know that fried chicken belongs to junk food that it's not good for health if you eat too often. But yet you still cannot resists to buy fried chicken. Anyway, I am a good example for this case :p

Chic-a-boo
is one of the fried chicken places that I ever try in Singapore. Although Chic-a-boo is located at hawker centre, this chicken has a delicious taste that can compete with the famous restaurant one.

Over there, I order two Corn Muffin and 1/2 dozen chicken which are contained three Favourite Chicken and three Hot & Spicy Chicken to eat at home with my brother in law.

I like Hot & Spicy Chicken more than the Favourite Chicken because the Hot & Spicy Chicken skin is crispy. There is no fat in the chicken and it's not oily. I think these chicken are better than KFC.

Corn Muffin is a bit sweet for me. Maybe this corn muffin is meant only for sweet lovers :)

FYI, you may wait the chicken around 15 minutes to be ready.

Will I go there again? Yes

Kwang Koan

Have you ever heard that “Coffee could make you smarter, thinner and healthier”? Don't know whether that slogan is true or not, but surprisingly, most of the people I know, they all are coffee lover.

Some of them are ‘die-die’ also must drink at least a cup coffee to spark their day!! Sadly but it’s true, I, myself, don’t like the bitterness taste of coffee itself = (

I still can accept when it comes to white coffee though.

Anyway, in Jakarta, there is one famous coffee shop located at Kelapa Gading area named Kwang Koan.

The owner of Kwang Koan is Mr. Johny Poluan. He opened Kwang Koan 5 years ago. This coffee shop is so famous. His customer not only from Kelapa Gading, but some of them are purposely come to this area to just drink his coffee.

Why the coffee is so famous? Claimed to use Toraja coffee bean plus with his secret recipe from his parent who is originally come from Hainan China, I’m quite sure his coffee will be quite special. He sells two types of coffee: black coffee and milk coffee. FYI, if you are not coffee lovers, you can try their version of Teh Tarik (Tea with milk or Teh O).

Not only for their coffee, Kwang Koan also famous for their Bakpao (especially the pork filling). The filling portion is quite generous and the taste is yummy-licious as well.

Over there we tried Milk Coffee, Teh Tarik, Pork Bakpao and Ground Nut Bakpao.

We were satisfied with the foods and drinks that we ordered. I would recommend you to have your breakfast, brunch, and tea-break at Kwang Koan.

Will I go there again? Absolutely Yes!!

Hot Tomato

Feel hungry after your CNY shopping at NEX? You may try Hot Tomato.

Hot Tomato is an affordable Western food restaurant that offers you quite a decent meal, with the jumbo portion that definitely will make your stomach full.

Over there We ordered Mixed Grill "N" Aglio Olio, Steak, Prawn "N" Aglio Olio and Ribeye Steak "N" Aglio Olio.

Mixed Grill "N" Aglio Olio is the most famous dish in this restaurant. It's because with S$11.90, you can get SausagesPork Chop, Teriyaki Chicken and Spaghetti. It's worth to try for the big appetite person.

Steak, Prawn "N" Aglio Olio and Ribeye Steak "N" Aglio Olio are also not a bad option either. The Steak is tender and the Prawn is fresh.

Overall this restaurant is worth to try. Just bear in mind that for most of the time the queue is quite long, especially during lunch and dinner time.

Will I go there again? Yes if it`s not too crowded.
