Sembawang White Beehoon

Last week I got an invitation from Mediacorp - Channel 8 to join as the foods tester on one of their local show, which is called Where the Queue Starts Series 4.

This show is about finding a hawker food / restaurant that have super long queue. Leaded by Bryan Wong and Cavin Soh, there will be a group formed by public to taste the food, and finally voting for the food if it’s worth for the queue.

Although I could not join this show because of my language limitation (this show’s conversation will be in Mandarin, duh!!), I still want to help them to find a super long queue restaurant around Singapore.

After search for some information, I manage to find the super long queue restaurant located at the opposite of Sembawang Shopping Centre. This restaurant called Sembawang White Beehoon Restaurant.

I heard that this restaurant is famous for their Seafood White Beehoon. This restaurant is a Cze Char style restaurant. Although they have many types of dishes, but most of the people go there is for their Seafood White Beehoon

I was very curious to know what is so special about this Seafood White Beehoon. After I tried, I feel that the Seafood White Beehoon is nice, a decent home cooked dish, and it will be great to eat it while it’s hot.

Other than Seafood White Beehoon, We ordered Sweet & Sour Pork and Indo-style fried Chicken Wing.

Their Sweer & Sour Pork is crispy and the Indo-style fried Chicken Wing taste is taste deliciously nice as well.

Their Seafood White Beehoon is indeed nice. If you stay near red line MRT (especially Sembawang area), you definitely must try this Seafood White Beehoon, even it requires you to queue :)

FYI! You could take a shuttle bus from Sembawang MRT to Sembawang Shopping Centre. The distance is not that near and the shuttle bus’ queue is quite long as well.

Seafood White Beehoon S$4.00

Indo-style fried Chicken Wing S$6 (S), S$8 (M), S$12 (L)

Sweet & Sour Pork S$10 (S), S$15 (M), S$20 (L)

Lovely Desserts at Epilogue Café

Happy Saturday to All!! Let’s spend our weekend by enjoying a sweet dessert at cosy café.

First of all let me say big thanks to the management of Epilogue Café for give me a second time invitation to review their café. As you would probably know, last year I got the invitation to review their branch at Orchard Central. And last week, they invited me to review their café at ion orchard branch. I am so happy and honoured for this opportunity.

For this time round, I will post about Epilogue Café’s dessert. Over there, we tried Almond Crumble Cheesecake, Oreo Cheesecake, Blueberry Cheesecake and Poire William Cream Brulle.

My most favourite must be their Poire William Cream Brulle. This dessert is extremely yummy, I love love love the peeled pear!! It’s one kind of dessert that you MUST try. Quite surprised to found this dessert at Epilogue Café, since usually you could only find it at hotel’s restaurant or expensive café.

FYI, Poire William is a colourless fruit brandy made from the William pear. Some Poire William producers include an entire pear inside each bottle. This is achieved by attaching the bottle to a budding pear tree so that the pear will grow inside it. Cream Brulle is a dessert consisting of a rich custard base topped with a contrasting layer of hard caramel.

As for the cheesecake lovers, you may try their Almond Crumble Cheesecake, Oreo Cheesecake and Blueberry Cheesecake. These three cheesecakes are awesomely delicious!!

Love the sweetness of the Blueberry Cheesecake, love the delightful original flavour of the Almond Crumble Cheesecake and I also love the crunchy feeling of the Oreo Cheesecake.

If you ask me which cheesecake I love most, it would be their Almond Crumble Cheesecake.

Good News from them!!!

Currently their having 15 %% off promotion for desserts like Poire William Crème Brulee, Classic Crème Brulee, Molten Chocolate Lava Cake, White Sesame Pana Cotta, Devilish Brownie with Ice Cream! You just need to LIKE Epilogue Café’s Facebook. The promo will ends on 31 January 2013.

Southwest Tavern

As promised in my last post, today’s post is about restaurant in Singapore.

I choose to review one special cowboy themed restaurant, called Southwest Tavern as for the starter.

Last Friday, I was invited to review Southwest Tavern. Reached there, I was surprise with their restaurant decorations. It is so damn fanCOWStic. Love the vintage, comfy and cosy country feeling.

Over there, they served Bloomin`s Onion, Bacon wrapped Tenderloin, Grilled US corn-feed pork chops, Beer Butt Sakura Chicken, Chicken Sausages, Suicide Wings, Southwest Puppies and cake.

Suicide Wings is a “star” dish on Southwest Tavern restaurant. If you are wondering why they called it "Suicide Wings", it’s because this chicken is super duper hot (spicy). For the spicy lover, you MUST try this star dish.

FYI! For the spice recipe, they use Jolokia as a chili ingredient. Jolokia is a chili pepper which previously recognized by Guinness World Records as the hottest pepper in the world, it is 10,000 times hotter than Tabasco sauce.

I tried a very small piece of this Suicide Wings and you know what, I SURRENDER. It was toooooo spicy; it made my tears dropped without even me realized it and my stomach felt so hot.

Beware: If you cannot take any spicy food, I would never recommend you to finish this dish ALONE. If you still dare, I could only say “My Condolence” :P

Bloomin`s Onion is a one large onion which is cut to resemble a blooming flower before they fried it. This Bloomin`s Onion is crispy and surprisingly not oily.

Bacon wrapped tenderloin and Grilled US corn-feed pork chops are also nice. Both meat are tender and have a delicious smoked flavour.

Beer Butt Sakura Chicken is another speciality dishes over there. It called "Beer Butt Chicken" because they put half can of beer into Chicken butt.

This cooking’s technique to roast a chicken in the oven / grill is just brilliant. It makes the chicken’s meet become so tender (the breast meat is become the same tender level as a thigh meat) and have a crispy skin.

Don't worry; you will not get drunk after eating Beer Butt Sakura Chicken.

Southwest Tavern’s Chicken Sausages, Southwest Puppies and the cake (which is similar with Chocolate Lava Cake) are also very nice.

Currently, Southwest Puppies and the cake are not available in the menu. I believed they will launch to sell those near in the future.

Over there, they have a challenge called "The Death Wings Challenge". To win this challenge, you need to finish 6 pieces of Suicide Wings and a pint of beer / soft drink in 15 minutes. If you win, both Suicide Wings and a pint of beer / soft drink will be on house.

Thanks to the Southwest Tavern’s management for the opportunity reviewing this awesome restaurant. It is just a great place for gathering and hang out on Friday or weekend night with friends or families.

EAT and EAT

Another post about food from my hometown!! Thanks for your understanding :P

EAT and EAT is a food court with a unique concept that you may found at Mall Kelapa Gading – Jakarta Utara.

I called it unique because they were successfully created the old retro place ambience together with their nice old decorations.

Their concept is quite similar with the Singapore Food Trail and Malaysian Food Street in Singapore.

Around there you may found Singapore’s, Malaysia’s, Chinese’s or Indonesia’s foods, like: Sekba, Baso Akiauw 99, Hainam Chicken Rice, Carrot Cake, Yong Tau Fu Singapore, Chili Frog Geylang Lor 9, Nasi Lemak Katong, Gudeg Dalang, Bakmi Kepiting Pontianak, Bubur Benteng Tangerang and many more.

At first, we were confused to choose what to eat. There are too many choices of foods offered.

All looks decent and NICE. Too bad I only got one stomach, my first sister and her husband can’t eat too much. Alamak!! Next time must bring more people, so I could try more type of foods over there.

In the end, we ordered Es Pisang Ijo, Nasi Bogana, Ketupat Telor and buah lontar.

FYI, buah lontar is one type of fruit.

Overall the tastes are not bad.

Nasi Bogana IDR22.727

Ketupat Telor

Es Pisang Ijo IDR10.454

Buah Lontar IDR10.000
