Madam Kwan`s

Have you ever heard about famous Malaysian's Nasi Lemak named Madam Kwan`s? It's so famous in Malaysia and they had opened their first branch in Singapore located at Vivo City. Interested with that news, me and my colleague went there after work to have dinner.

Although the restaurant was very big and had two entrances, the queue was still quite long.

Over there, we tried Nasi Lemak and Nasi Bojari.

Nasi Lemak was contained aromatic coconut steamed rice with chicken curry, sambal ikan bilis, dried shrimp floss, hard-boiled egg, acar and fresh cucumber. This was the most expensive Nasi Lemak that we have ever tried so far and the taste is so-so. For us, it's not worth at all.

Actually Nasi Bojari was contained tri-coloured rice with assam prawns, beef rendang and deep fried chicken drumstick. But in that day they didn't have tri-coloured rice left, so they changed it with plain rice. Nasi Bojari taste was delicious. The chicken was big enough, but the beef rendang and asam prawns portion were very small.

After we tried those dishes, we were wondering why this restaurant was so famous. Maybe we should try Madam Kwan`s at Malaysia or maybe they were famous because of their expensive price :p

Will I go there again? No.

Nasi Lemak S$13.90

Nasi Bojari S$18.90

Es Selendang Mayang

Good Day Every One,

How’s your Christmas holiday?  I hope everyone had a great weekend and great Monday as well!!

Today I want to share with you one of the famous Betawi desserts called Es Selendang Mayang

Es Selendang Mayang

Es Selendang Mayang consists of Kueh Selendang Mayang, Palm Sugar and coconut milk.

Kueh Selendang Mayang

FYI, Betawi are the descendants of the people who staying around Batavia (the colonial name for Jakarta) from around 17century. Betawi has a rich of culture and foods.

Nowadays, it's very difficult to find Es Selendang Mayang seller in Jakarta.

Maybe it’s because all the Betawi young generations are not interested to sell this dessert or there is no market for this old-time kueh.  Luckily, I manage to find this Es Selendang Mayang seller in Kampung Jajan Betawi.

The way the seller cut the Kueh Selendang Mayang is quite unique.

He is using a small wood stick to cut the kueh. After cut, he will put the kueh into a small cup of glass. After that, he will put ice, Palm Sugar water and coconut milk.

Below is a video taken for you to see how the seller cut the kueh.

Ramen Champion

A few years back one of my reader "Anihe" requested me to review Ramen Champion, but I didn't have time to go there.  Finally, I managed a time to go there with my cousin last August.

Ramen Champion has unique concepts.  They put more than one famous Japanese Ramen sellers from different province together in one place. There are Menban Yamagishi Kazuo, Gantetsu, Muso, Bario and Ikkousha. They are competing to declare which ramen is the best among them during a period of time and Ramen Champion management will announce the winner of this competition. The winner will be determined by the most ramen bowl that they able to sell to customer during that period.

Me and my cousin ordered Hokkaido King Tonkotsu from Gantetsu and Special Ramen from Menban Yamagishi Kazuo.

I like Special Ramen more than Hokkaido King Tonkotsu Ramen. It's because the Special Ramen broth is tastier. Luckily my cousin ordering the Special Ramen and pity me because he only allows me to try a bit. :p

Will I go there again? Yes, I will try another Ramen.

Restoran Sederhana

Have you ever try Padang Style restaurant in Jakarta?

If the answer is no, then you MUST try it when you visit my hometown one day. I guarantee you will love it (confident + proud mode).

Restoran Sederhana is one of the most famous Padang style restaurants in Jakarta.

This restaurant offers a wide range of delicious dishes that ‘confirm’ will make you to eat for more than one round.

Most of the dishes over there are spicy. But don't worry; they also have a few non spicy dishes for you to try.

How to order the foods over there?
Normally they will put more than ten small plates in your table. Each plate contains different dish and some of the dishes (e.g: chicken, fritters) have 2 pieces in a single plate. Don't worry if you are eat alone, you can only take one piece of chicken or fritters to try and of course you only pay one piece of the dish.

But this rule is not meant for all dishes in here. Most of the vegetables and fish are calculate by per plate. So you still need to pay full price even you only eat half portion of the dish in a single plate.

Over there, we tried Ayam Bakar, Ayam Gulai, Tempe Goreng Tepung, Bakwan Jagung, Anak Ikan Cabai Ijo, Sayur Nangka and Udang Balado. I like all the foods especially Anak Ikan Cabai Ijo and Ayam Bakar.

Anak Ikan Cabai Ijo is a baby fish with Green Chilli.  It's so crunchy. I can't imagine that those baby fishes can be that crunchy!!

Ayam Bakar is a grilled chicken. It tasted so damn good!! The flavour and the meat were just simply delicious.

Overall, we enjoyed had our late lunch over there.
